Quantem completes summer refurbishment programme across three Thomas’s schools
- 3rd September 2026
Thomas’s Kensington, Thomas’s Battersea and Thomas’s Fulham have welcomed the completion of summer refurbishment works, with all three schools handed over in time for the start of the new academic year.
Quantem is pleased to celebrate the completion and handover of refurbishment projects across three Thomas’s schools, delivering enhanced teaching, library and ancillary spaces ready to welcome pupils and staff for the new academic year.
The projects at Thomas’s Kensington, Thomas’s Battersea and Thomas’s Fulham have focused on improving the functionality, quality and accessibility of existing school environments. Across the three schemes, works have included classroom and library refurbishments, building services upgrades, improved facilities and extensive bespoke joinery.
Working within live educational settings and delivering during the summer break, the projects required careful planning, coordination and collaboration between the schools, design teams, contractors and wider project teams to ensure the spaces were ready for the start of term.
‘Thomas’s is a group of five thriving co-educational day and boarding schools across London with over 2,000 pupils aged 3-18
Thomas’s Kensington
The refurbishment at Thomas’s Kensington comprised the strip-out and refurbishment of the main school building and No. 21, alongside associated building services upgrades.
The works included the refurbishment of classrooms, dining and ancillary spaces, together with upgrades to existing WC facilities and the provision of new facilities.
A significant feature of the project was the extensive bespoke joinery, designed to support the school’s focus on high-quality, engaging learning environments. Particular attention was given to the library and teaching spaces, where carefully integrated joinery and storage solutions have been introduced to maximise functionality and make effective use of the available space.
The completed works provide improved learning and support spaces for pupils and staff, combining practical improvements with a considered approach to the design and detailing of the school environment.
Thomas’s Battersea
At Thomas’s Battersea, the project involved the strip-out and refurbishment of the Kindergarten and classroom areas, alongside associated building services upgrades. The works placed a strong emphasis on enhancing learning and library spaces, with extensive bespoke joinery introduced to create practical, engaging environments for pupils.
A key element of the refurbishment was the improvement of access to the library. New ramped access, together with external levelling works, has enhanced accessibility and connectivity between spaces, supporting a more inclusive school environment.
The completed project brings together improvements to teaching spaces, bespoke design elements and practical accessibility upgrades, helping to create an environment that supports the day-to-day needs of pupils and staff.
Thomas’s Fulham
The refurbishment at Thomas’s Fulham comprised the strip-out and refurbishment of teaching and ancillary spaces throughout the school, including associated building services upgrades.
Bespoke joinery formed a significant part of the design, with extensive integrated storage incorporated throughout the teaching spaces to maximise functionality and make effective use of the available space.
The works included the introduction of teaching walls, reading coves, integrated seating and tailored storage solutions. These elements have been designed to create flexible and engaging learning environments that respond to the everyday needs of pupils and staff.
By combining practical storage solutions with carefully considered teaching and reading spaces, the refurbishment supports a more functional and adaptable school environment.
Delivering for the new academic year
The completion of these three projects marks an important
achievement for the teams involved, with each school now ready to welcome
pupils and staff back for the new academic year.
While each refurbishment has responded to the specific
requirements of its school, the projects share a common focus on improving
learning environments through thoughtful design, quality workmanship and
practical solutions.
From bespoke joinery and integrated storage to improved
accessibility and upgraded facilities, the works demonstrate the value of
carefully planned refurbishment in supporting the evolving needs of educational
environments.
