Ecole Jeannine Manuel UK’s Infant and Junior School

The extension to École Jeannine Manuel at Russell Square has created additional space for the school within a sensitive central London setting. The project forms part of the school’s continued development, providing an enhanced educational environment while responding to the constraints and opportunities of the existing buildings. Located at 20–24 Russell Square, the scheme brings together thoughtful design and careful construction planning to support the needs of the school and its pupils.

The project involved the extension and adaptation of the school buildings at 20–24 Russell Square, creating a new flexible hall space, additional WCs and some external amenity at both ground and roof level. The works were developed in response to the school’s operational requirements and was designed to be in keeping with the character of the surrounding Russell Square area, the project required careful coordination between the existing building fabric and the proposed extension. Works were undertaken whilst keeping the school live and due to the location of the site entrance required agreements with the neighbouring University to access via their grounds.
