Tell us about your journey leading to Quantem
I have always had an interest in construction and the fact it is a tangible and important industry. This consequently led me to review the multitude of career options, quickly choosing Building Surveying to study at University. I completed the three-year course and graduated in 2020 during the pandemic, leading me to put on hold initial career ambitions. After 12 months, I was introduced to Quantem and was impressed by the modernity of the business, the range of projects and APC support provided. Following the relaxed interview process, I joined the business in late 2021.
Why Quantem?
When compared to different practices, Quantem stood out for a litany of reasons; these primarily being the positive collaborative benefits of having a multi-disciplinary team working collaboratively on projects of which covered a vast range of clients and sectors. This was further emphasised by the fact the established Building Surveying team operated out of the Birmingham office, with a clear nationwide reach from projects representing a multitude of roles that a surveyor can perform.
Furthermore, it became apparent that as a business, Quantem had achieved a reputation for reliable and effective work, which was aiding them in continuing the progressive growth they had
experienced of the preceding years.
What have you been working on?
Upon initially joining Quantem I provided supplementary support to the team working on projects that were already in progress. This has since developed to the stage where I am now managing
projects on a ‘first point of contact’ basis, liaising directly with clients and contractors and producing the primary documentation that is pivotal to the conception and progression of a project. This has all been actioned on projects that have included city centre and rural locations; infrastructure and educational developments and large multinational clients and contractors in comparison to smaller independent clients and contractors.
How has Quantem helped you?
I have been able to gain invaluable experience during my time at Quantem. My depth and breadth of knowledge has significantly increased with assistance from colleagues and others in the industry. I have been able to use this experience to provide a high level of service to clients, ensuring that the commercial aspects of their projects are taken care of, from early-stage feasibility estimates through to agreeing final accounts.
What are your career aspirations?
My immediate career ambition is to pass the RICS APC process, something I am currently undertaking, to become a Chartered surveyor. This will further allow me to continue the personal and professional development that Quantem have facilitated since I joined the business. The support provided during the APC process from colleagues and my counsellor, has been bolstered by internal revision and support sessions by both fellow APC candidates and those that have recently passed.
